153 Spotisfaction Friday – 25th March 2011 – Mike Sheldrick

Morning kids. What an awesome week we’re having, no? Some daft bugger has closed all the blinds in the office today, so I’m taking far more coffee breaks than is strictly necessary to try and wrest back some sunshine.

I went airsofting last night with some friends (think paintball, but indoors and with BBs instead of paint) and tripped whilst heroicly pegging it away from the other team… consequently I’ve completely knackered my shoulder. I’m sat here, high on ibuprofen, trying not to move. My poor wife (who is 8-months pregnant and can barely move, too) had to help dress me this morning. Oh how the mighty have fallen, eh! So, if you see me around this weekend, be gentle otherwise I might cry at you.

Anyway!

Today’s playlist is courtesy of Mighty Mike Sheldrick and is entitled Barefaced Optimism. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect here, but this whole playlist works really well. Nothing like a sunny day and some undeniably classic tunes to cheer you up! Make sure to hit the read more link to see what Mike has to say about this mix – worth reading.

Morning kids. I trust everyone had a fantabulous weekend? Mine was pretty good – I did very little except for shopping, watching rugby and chilling out. Awesome.

Today’s playlist is by one of my two joint-favourite Hawlings, Jo, and is quite the eclectic mix of strong tracks. This playlist has completely evaporated my Monday morning blues – very impressive stuff indeed.

151 Spotisfaction Wednesday – 8th March 2011 – Dave Christensen

Good morning folks. I’m going to be an honest bunny and put my hands up – I’ve been slacking horrendously with Spotisfaction. I won’t bore you with the excuses, but I will tell you that I’m going to try and find time to update a little more often. I got a little burnt out with running the site over Christmas, but I’m re-energised and ready to share some more Spotify playlists with you all. On that note, of course, if you have one you’re working on, send it our way ;)

I’ve spent this evening going through our backlog (wow, you guys have been busy! I’ll work through them over the next couple of weeks, I promise <3), so here’s one out of my “I’ve been listening to this playlist quite a lot, I should probably give it the post it deserves!” list! 150 Spotisfaction Friday – 21st January 2011 – Dave Christensen

Morning all. Just a quick one to let you know that we’d love your playlists like they were our first born children. They deserve a good home, yo, so send them to us. We have candy.

Also, as you may have noticed, we’ve relaxed our update schedule a wee bit – we decided that a formally scheduled, magazine style format wasn’t really for us (tbh, it was a bit too much like real work). This means that there should be an awful lot less pressure for contributors to come up with stuff, so if the reason you didn’t want to get involved in the site previously was that you didn’t have enough time to commit, then fret ye not! If you want to write a paragraph about a new album that’s exciting you then great! Want to run a poll on the public’s favourite Descendents album (everyone knows it’s Milo Goes to College. Fact)? Perfect! Less structure, less rigidity, fewer (no) deadlines, more fun. That’s the aim, anyway. Get in touch if this sounds good to you.

148 Spotisfaction Friday – 10th December 2010 – Simon Mogg

Another busy week polished off. Dreadzone on Wednesday and New Pornographers on Thursday were both awesome. Dreadzone review should be up next week, look out for that. It’s been a good year for me, Dave and everyone involved with Spotisfaction, thanks for enjoy it with us.

Christmas is rapidly approaching and we are considering wrapping up the site for a while (see what I did there? Cracker of a pun.. OOP, GUILTY AS CHARGED) – we’ve got to go to our families, cook the turkeys, wrap the presents, so don’t be surprised it the site slows down for a while. We’re still alive though, and Spotify will still be here for us in the new year. Hopefully you’re all gearing up for Christmas and looking forward to a long overdue break. We are!

Afternoon guys and gals. So, 1st December. Crazy, huh? I’m actually feeling pretty Christmassy today which I think is making my colleagues want to punch me in the face. I’m OK with that, though. When is it too early to start with the mince pies? Never too early, you say? Fine! I’m all over it.

Morning ladies and lads. I don’t like to be one to state the obvious, but good goddamn it’s cold. So cold, in fact, that I’ve come down with a bout of ManFlu (the horror!). So, I’m sat here trying to warm my poor hands whilst sipping a steaming mug of Lemsip. Great times, sirs. Great times.

Afternoon, kids. Friday, once again. This week has been completely nuts – we’ve been trying to balance full-time jobs with running the site, and it’s really taking it’s toll at the moment. Morning folks. Quick call to arms for you this morning – for the first time since our launch, we’re running really short on playlists. If you have a Spotify playlist that you’re quite proud of, or would like other people to see, then please get in touch in the usual fashion (Twitter, email, on the site, etc.). Seriously, anything you can send to us will be gratefully received and used – we survive on your content, guys and dolls, so please get it to us!

Anyway, to business. We have something a wee bit different for you today. Today’s playlist is one that was recently published by prolific dubstep label Hyperdub, and features many of the label’s artists such as Kode9 and Burial. It’s a cracking playlist, and one I’ve very much enjoyed listening to – I hope you enjoy, too.

Afternoon all! Sorry for the slight delay in getting the playlist to you today – I had this morning off as holiday and quite short-sightedly forgot to ask anyone to cover! Oops. My apologies. Tonight is episode 3 of The Walking Dead, which is ridiculously exciting – I’ve not been this gripped by a series in a long time. Are you watching it? If so, what are your thoughts so far? Having said that, I guess, I was equally as engaged by Lost season 1, and look how seasons 2 and 3 panned out…

Friday, we’ve made it to the weekend. Let us know what your plans are for the next couple of days – where are the places to be this weekend? It’s been a busy few days for Spotisfaction – they took a dislike to Davey P at the 3 Daft Monkey’s gig last night and nearly didn’t let him through the door, but he convinced them in the end. The Mystery Jets and Fenech-Soler were on top form for me over the last two nights; Dave and I will be preping our reviews this weekend.

Now, following my Last.FM playlist on Wednesday, Kev Atkinson has taken up the idea and done his own. This might be a good idea for everyone to pick up on, so lets see an influx of Last.FM based playlists in our inbox soon! The concept behind this playlist was to really try and demonstrate that there is a huge wealth of music out there in the world, and often in places you might not expect to look. Most of the general public, I worry, are out there being drip fed their X Factor pop pound spinners and they often don’t have a look around them.

I’ve chosen 18 tracks from 18 different locations to highlight that you really can find some great music out there in that world of ours. In this first run I’ve not even gone that far off spectrum and tried to include more established acts – so as not to go all out on the first trip.

132 Spotisfaction Monday – 1st November 2010 – Woody Whyte

Morning kids. I hope your weekend was as awesome as mine – spent my Saturday screaming like a little girl at Alton Towers, and then spent an extra hour in bend on Sunday. Bliss. Now though, I’m hoarse as hell and work today is a bit of a shock to the system, I’ll be honest. No matter, though, we have another playlist to get us through the Monday blues!

Today’s playlist is by staff-member Woody Whyte, and is curiously entitled “In Bed With Grace Jones”. Incredibly camp playlist today, sir. I approve.

So, I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking when I came up with the title of this playlist. Obviously, I was thinking of Grace Jones, but this playlist isn’t a list of songs I would play her if we did happen to end up in bed together, which lets face it, is probably unlikely. But anyway, this playlist is more a collection of songs which, after listening to ‘Slave to the Rhythm’, got my brain all excited about the prospect of a playlist of new wave/electronic/pop and everything inbetween music from the 80s and early 90s.

I would recommend you only play this to other people if they already expect you to play socially awkward music at the complete wrong time. Otherwise, listen in your room and freak out like you’re Kate Bush on acid for an hour. It will do your soul wonders…
