Today is a bit alfresco. Got a few playlists lined up for the week but we need more. I haven”™t been keeping up with the music the last week or so, so I”™m dependant on you guys submitting lists for me to listen to so I can broaden my horizons and be inspired.
The line up for the week looks to be Sean Ferguson today, Fozz tomorrow and Ben Hawling on Wednesday, with one from Dave or myself on Thursday. We”™ll leave Friday open for now and see how things go.
Dave is actually ill today, so big love to the David, who is probably sat at home in his pants AS I TYPE. Hotness. Oh but today, I”™ll post Seans. He hasn”™t had time to write out the blurb, or even a tracklist as he”™s rock and roll, so I”™ll do that when I get some time later. In the meantime, get submitting us some more music you music whores!

The thing that”™s always drew me to music is the fact that it”™s so emotive. That, to me, is its primary purpose. To draw up some sense of emotion, whether based around the lyrics, the music, the beat, or the memories associated with the song. Whether I”™m taken back to a time in my life, thinking back on a person, or just finding a song that seems to have been written for me, by me, or even about me, through the highs, through the lows, music has always been my never waiving partner. There”™s old friends that you go a length of time never hearing, ones you listen to on repeat, and ones that draw up such powerful emotions, you prefer not to hear them at all.
The playlist below is based around the songs that evoke the most emotion out of me. Each one represents a significant feeling, milestone, event, or person in my life, hence the varied nature across genres and decades.
Due to the personal nature behind each selection, I”™m *not* going to delve into a breakdown of each song, as per the norm. I”™m just going to ask you to sit back, give it a listen, and come to your own conclusions.
So, after working with Thom and I forever, our friend Whit is leaving the country. It makes us sad. We love you, Whit, so it was only fitting that we post this beautiful poem to send you off. I”™ll hand over to Whit for today”™s playlist – fly true, young one.
Did I disappoint you or let you down?
Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown?
”˜Cause I saw the end before we”™d begun,
Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won.
So I took what”™s mine by eternal right.
Took your soul out into the night.
It may be over but it won”™t stop there,
I am here for you if you”™d only care.
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I”™ve kissed your lips and held your hand.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
I”™ve been addicted to you.
[x2]
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
I am a dreamer and when i wake,
You can”™t break my spirit – it”™s my dreams you take.
And as you move on, remember me,
Remember us and all we used to be
I”™ve seen you cry, I”™ve seen you smile.
I”™ve watched you sleeping for a while.
I”™d be the father of your child.
I”™d spend a lifetime with you.
I know your fears and you know mine.
We”™ve had our doubts but now we”™re fine,
And I love you, I swear that”™s true.
I cannot live without you.
[x2]
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
And I still hold your hand in mine.
In mine when I”™m asleep.
And I will bare my soul in time,
When I”™m kneeling at your feet.
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
I”™m so hollow, baby, I”™m so hollow.
I”™m so, I”™m so, I”™m so hollow.
I”™m so hollow, baby, I”™m so hollow.
I”™m so, I”™m so, I”™m so hollow.
*Cries like a baby*

Quick justification run down then. It will be quick, as times are a-busy at present. Here we go. Be warned – this is quick. For reasons I can”™t go into I”™m not going to be so wordy today. My mouthbox is all broked up.
Interest in the Whitest Boy Alive and Kings of Convenience stem from my love for Erlend Øye. Maybe it”™s the subtle voice, but it seems to work with so many applications. This triple slice of honesty is enough to kick off the slightly more chilled and introspective playlist.
Broken Bells put out their first album this week. “The High Road” has been on constant rotation on my personal playlists for a while now. I”™ve always been a sucker for Mercer”™s voice and this track showcases just what it is I love about it beautifully.
I”™m not a regular passenger on the MGMT express train, but “Youth” is so the song to curl up to, all starcrossed, in a quiet bar without a care in the world :-)
Xploding Plastix”™s “Treat Me Mean, I Need The Reputation” has no place on this list. I”™ve been meaning to put it on one of my Spotisfactions for a while. It”™s just a slice of buttered chaos-on-toast of drums, bass and some a piano straight from the ball room of hell. Oh, also, it kills any “chilled vibe” this playlist had with a spastic hammer.
“Idunno” by Ungdomskulen really grabbed me when I heard it last week. It just sounds like a guitar rendition of a theme you”™d find on Rygar on the NES. Nobody can pronounce the band name though.
Serena Maneesh – “Drain Cosmetics” is a wicked track. These guys are starting a tour with The Depreciation Guild this month I think. I think these guys are pretty special and definitely worth a listen.
Yes, it”™s short. It”™s not fantastically descriptive. I will make great pains to go into more detail for my next post. Think you can do better? Prove it and submit some playlists. I know there are a few of you out there who have expressed interest in a playlist and haven”™t sent on yet. Please, please do. And the playlists we”™ve had thus far have been fantastic and I want to thank each and every one of you personally with words and a drink. This is fact. Submit playlists, get beer. Until next time, bye.
I had coleslaw for breakfast today. Apologies for the delayed update, it”™s been a crazy ride for the last few days. The below playlist is a few tracks I cobbled together that I fancied listening to today. Blurb to follow.
Oh and also, the last few playlists have been fantastic. A huge thank you to everyone who has submitted. Please submit more so I can take more days off and listen to your awesome tastes in music. Much love.

What can I say about this playlist?
No seriously what can I say about this playlist as I don”™t know where to start, I haven”™t written anything more than a sarcastic comment or two in a journal in the call logging system at work in quite some time but I”™ll see what I can do.
This measly collection of songs is a bit of a trip down memory lane for me, it”™s entitled “Old School” because I am old and this is some of the stuff I listened to when I was in school and started me on the musical journey that I am currently travelling.
I start with the Levellers for the reason that they were the first band I ever saw live and this track is the first song of theirs that I ever heard so it seemed like a logical choice.
From there I proceed to meander through the world of independent music from the late 80s and early 90s, my reasons for choosing many of the tracks is simply because I haven”™t listen to those artists for a while, others are there because when I think back to that time I simply couldn”™t leave them out, inevitably there are some that I couldn”™t find on Spotify and there are many, many more that I have left out simply because I had to keep the length of the playlist down.
There is a mix of shoegaze, grunge, alternative, grebo, madchester, indie, techno, punk, dance and many more made up genres that leads me to think my tastes were more diverse back then than I gave myself credit for. Many of these you may know but hopefully there will be some that are new to you as well.
The ending is more of a playlist within a playlist, those of you who know me know that there is quite an antipodean streak through my musical collection and here is where all that started. I was a bit disappointed by the selection of Hunters & Collectors available on Spotify so this isn”™t their best track but the best from what I had to choose from.
And to finish? Well who else could I end on than the mighty Crowded House. I am a huge fan of the Finns and could write a whole blurb on them alone but I will keep that for another day and just let their music speak for them.
Morning ladies and gents. Today is a very special day. The most special, in-fact. So super-special it”™s making my knees tingle. No, not Christmas”¦ That”™s right! It”™s Kev”™s birthday!
Even though the norm is to receive presents on your birthday instead of giving them yourself, Kev”™s kindly made us a wicked playlist. I”™ll hand over to him nao.
Happy birthday dude. Don”™t drink too much tonight.

Thought you could use a lick of retro so here”™s a free pass to a very good summer that I spent in headphones, blissfully ignorant of the outside that is. Designed to drag you from apathy to bliss via angst, what? and random.
Dusty nuggets include ”˜Twinkle”™ by whipping boy which is like so the most, ”˜Teen Age Riot”™ by Sonic Youth which is a ninja head butt, ”˜Girl at the bus stop”™ by my drug hell which hooks you with hookness and ”˜Halcyon and on and on”™ by orbital which is stealth and soul and quite simply, music to fuck to.
Enjoy

Well hello there. It”™s Tuesday. By now you should all know how I feel about Tuesdays. But today is different. Today we have the quite amazing Jo Hawling to save us from what is quite possibly the worst day of the week, generally speaking. I”™ll hand over to her”¦ now.

Morning beautifuls. Today”™s playlist is a bit hit or miss, I think. Wanted to showcase some of the, perhaps, lesser known bands I”™ve been listening to over the last couple of months. If you enjoy any of them, check them out – a lot of them have more stuff on Spotify.

To keep it a bit manageable, try to limit yourself to a mere handful of banging tracks. No genre limitations, no having to flow correctly from the previous song (although you can if you like) – the only rule is that you have to love the tracks you contribute :)
Friday! Your sweet embrace nourishes and renews. To gear us up for a great weekend, we”™ve got a super-special collaborative playlist to check out and contribute to!
Step 1: Find the playlist (hint: it”™s here).
Step 2: Add your tracks.
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit!

I”™m not one for blurb necassarily, but here goes.
This playlist is a mix of beats and rhymes generated because I listen to different styles depending my mood. This is my getting stuff done with a groove mix but also to prove that hiphop isn”™t just a flat Stereotype of nizzas and wizza and busting caps in grasses while blunting your 40”¦.
A lot of these artists are UK based which is a bit of a chance to show off some homegrown talent, although Abdominal is Canadian I think, he”™s closely linked with the excellent DJ Format. I”™ve been listening to Ty since he appeared on a Sprung Mountain Bike video many many moons ago. There”™s 1 potentially quite controversial track in there, but its a tune I really like and compared to the rest of this artists work, I think it stands out. See if you can guess which one.
I”™ve also taken the opportunity to lace the playlist with Speech Debelle, who to many will just be the unknown who won the Mercury Music Prize, but i really think if you haven”™t hear her music before, its a great example of why she deserved that prize rather than the music press”™s constant cooing of the like of Kasabian (who I actually like but really don”™t understand the exessive hype).
I”™ve tried to spread the music out so if you can resist listening on shuffle give it a go, but I”™ll forgive you if you can”™t (as I”™m a shuffle junkie myself a lot of the time). Some Acid Jazz and even some poetry creeps to give your mind a break from the lyric onslaught and for you impatient types, its a little shorter at a scant 1.4 hours”¦
Whoa. We”™ve had a nice influx of playlists from you decent folks and a fair few more in the pipeline, so huge, massive, monumentally large thanks to you all. Didn”™t think this little idea would catch on, so freaking aces to see our inbox filling with quality playlists! I hope you”™re enjoying building your lists as much as we enjoy listening to them.
Remember, if you want to submit one (or another one, if you”™ve already done one) then see here.
Today is Battinski”™s birthday, so in honour of the grumpy bastard being really old we”™re posting his playlist today. Happy birthday, dude.

JB says:
The GZA”™s Liquid Swords was the only way I could think to start this mix, firstly because I love Hip and Hop and mostly because the intro is the most awesome intro to a song I”™ve heard. It also starts a rather sombre first half of the mix.
I can”™t remember when I first heard RJD2 but loved a fair few of his tracks straight away, The Horror seemed to fit quite well with the somewhat dark intro to the previous song
The Roots are great normally, but I think the addition of Erykah Badu to this track really lifts it to another level.
Next up Massive Attack”™s new one, I haven”™t stopped listening to Paradise Circus since I first heard it before Christmas, absolutely love it, certainly in my top 3 massive attack songs. Also has a very NSFW video at: http://vimeo.com/8195617
Paradise Circus helpfully helps move the mix from hip-hop more into melancholic female vocal tracks, the first I will mention is Paranoid Android by Sia, I was originally going to include Sunday by Sia but stumbled across this whilst looking for the other one, and really enjoyed this unusual take on a certain bands well known track.
Next up a touch of Icelandic female vocals from someone who isn”™t Bjork”¦Emiliana Torrini, who I had been listening to for quite a while, this is taken from one of her early and IMHO best albums.
Skipping forward a bit to Drumming Song, only really got into Jack Beats fairly recently, great big wobbly bass on nearly everything they do, and a turning point in the mix as it speeds up somewhat for a while.
Had to squeeze a bit of High Contrast on here as well, great remix of Adele”™s Hometown Glory far better than the original.
Then The Go! Team, who are quite hard to categorize really, suffice to say much more upbeat for this half of the mix, hard to choose a track of theirs to go one, well worth listening to the album if you”™ve not heard them before!
Uffie was a bit of a joke on my part, used to listen to a few tracks of hers a long time ago, everyone else hated her, and I could see why, but for some reason found it kind of catchy, went to see what she had done since that point, and quite liked this, will probably still annoy quite a few people lol.
Swinging back into hip-hop a few classics from Biggie and Jurassic 5.
Finally rounding up with something that has guitars in, always loved Good News for People Who Love Bad News, so good to include a famous track, and finally ending with the good old Postal Service.

Fill in the form with your questions or comments and by the power of magic and spandex in will arrive in our grubby little inbox for us to read. I believe that you can submit anonymous questions if you”™re worried about ridicule and I don”™t believe your questions will be published to the public.
Come on, we”™re not giving you any excuses. Submit some shit.
So, we”™ve been thinking about how to best go about this whole Spotisfaction malarkey, and have been asking some listeners what they think about the whole thing. It seems that it”™s sometimes hard to find enough time to listen to a 2hr playlist every day. So, that leaves us with a couple of options:
We could move to an every-other-day kind of system to avoid over-saturating people”™s brainparts with quality music lists. That”™d mean that the pressure to fire out a killer playlist would be a bit higher to compensate. The playlists so far have been banging”¦Â can the human brain cope with the next level of amazing? I foresee explogasms in the near future.
We could create a ”˜best of”™ list as voted by our listeners to highlight any stand-out tracks that may have been missed throughout the week. Perhaps this could be in the form of a collaborative playlist on a Friday? We could all choose, say, 4 tracks that we loved that week and bung them into Friday”™s playlist. The drawback here is that it”™d involve a fair amount of audience participation and wouldn”™t work if you fine kids didn”™t help out.
So, we”™re looking for some feedback please! Let us know what you”™d prefer, or even if you”™d like us to carry on as we have been doing.

As Dave has been ill and I”™ve been pretty busy recently todays playlist is a quick and dirty playlist hacked together. It”™s still a good selection of stuff, so enjoy. Hopefully tomorrow our good friend John Brobyn will be stepping in with a mix. Goodstuffs.

Welcome back from the weekend. The news in brief:
Dave isn”™t very well today. He feels the sick. Get well soon, Dave. Today”™s playlist is bought to you by Sean Ferguson and is a veritable collection of hits and classics. The blurb, as usual, will follow later will remain absent due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Here is the playlist.
