Hey guyseses,

Sorry for the super late update today – Thom and I had a ridiculously busy day at work, which isn”™t much of an excuse but will have to do. We”™ve got more of our VFTA: Broken Social Scene series incoming tomorrow, as well as a write-up of the gig by our competition winner, Rhys.

Today”™s playlist was submitted to us by Paul Pritchard on May 20th, but we”™ve been unable to run it until now. Consider it a retrospective instead of a preview.

Take it easy, you slouches.

78 Spotisfaction Monday (28 Jun) – PPritchard

Join us after the break for the tracklist and Paul”™s blurb.
Paul says:

I”™m off to Barcelona next week to got to the Primaverasound 2010 music festival. I thought it would be a good idea to post a playlist with some of the bands I am most looking forward to seeing whilst there.  Perhaps others can post similarly themed playlists for any other festivals they may be attending soon.  Here it is:

  1. The Big Pink – Dominos
  2. A Sunny Day In Glasgow – Failure
  3. Beak> – Pill
  4. Pavement – Passat Dream
  5. Broken Social Scene – Fire Eye”™d Boy
  6. Wire – Too Late
  7. The Fall – Theme From Sparta F.C.
  8. Pet Shop Boys – West End Girls
  9. Pixies – Wave Of Mutilation
  10. Condo Fucks – Watcha Gonna Do About It
  11. Ganglians – Hair
  12. Atlas Sound – Walkabout
  13. Yeasayer – Ambling Alp
  14. Orbital – Belfast
  15. Gary Numan – Are ”˜Friends”™ Electric
  16. Real Estate – Basement
  17. Los Campesinos – There Are Listed Buildings
  18. Bis – Eurodisco
  19. The Charlatans – Sproston Green
  20. Beach House – Norway
  21. Lee Perry And The Upsetters – Enter The Dragon
  22. Low – California
  23. Mission Of Burma – Spider”™s Web
  24. Wild Beasts – We Still Got The Taste Dancing On Our Tongues

Unfortunately the organisers have seemed fit to put Pavement and Mission Of Burma on at the same time, grrrr.

Guys, girls and northerners. Apologies for the delay in today”™s Spotisfaction. David and I are currently trialling a later update to afford us some more free time in the morning. It works for us, let”™s see if it works for you.

Today”™s mixtape of the virtual kind is from our good friend (and generally slick muddyfunster) Paul P, who obviously knows his way around the music. Turn left here, down that dark alley, ooh, check out that little shop, it does the best dango. Mmm, dango. I just ate a tomato. I was hoping that when I bit into it, tomato juice would shoot out and hit David right in his ear. You know, RIGHT IN HIS EARHOLE. But it didn”™t. Instead it went all over my beard, hands and keyboard. I blame David for this, and he will soon know the full extent of my wrath. Because he”™ll read this news post. Yes, David, I will have my revenge. Revenge is a dish best served with mint sauce. Like cous cous.

But enough talk, HAVE HAT YOU!

  1. Boyfriend – Alphabeat
  2. Efilnikufesin – Anthrax
  3. Drive That Fast – Kitchens Of Distinction
  4. Black Steel – Tricky
  5. Spit On A Stranger – Pavement
  6. Soon – My Bloody Valentine
  7. At Long Last – Swell
  8. Midnight In A Perfect World – DJ Shadow
  9. Sea Of Teeth – Sparklehorse
  10. I Will Dare – The Replacements
  11. See No Evil – Television
  12. French Film Blurred – Wire
  13. Moby Octopad – Yo La Tengo
  14. You Suffer – Napalm Death
  15. Wolf Like Me – Tv On The Radio
  16. Pearl – Chapterhouse
  17. Here Comes Everybody – Autolux
  18. Leave Home – The Chemical Brothers
  19. Glass Printer – The Besnard Lakes
  20. Broadway (So Many People) – Low
  21. Cybele”™s Reverie – Stereolab
  22. Waves – Holly Miranda
  23. Star Fruits Surf Rider – Cornelius
  24. Tunic (Song For Karen) – Sonic Youth
  25. Smokebelch II (Beatless Mix) – The Sabres Of Paradise

This is just a small selection of what I”™ve loved to listen to throughout this thing we call life along with a couple of things that I”™m liking currently.  The first track is one of the most giddy uplifting tracks you can ever hear, and the second takes me back to my school days, the days of dandruff and mullets (for me anyway, ahem..).  Endtroducing has to be one of my all time favourite records and Midnight in a Perfect world is a perfect encapsulation of the wonder that is DJ Shadow.  Had to put Sparklehorse in (R I P Mark Linkous), truly genius.  I liked Chapterhouse for about 40 minutes in 1991 whilst peering laconically through a very long fringe but this is an ace track I”™ve just rediscovered, .

The Besnard Lakes are new to me and I”™m loving this album at the moment, it has an epic spacious feel about it which greatly appeals to me.  Low very much being an obvious influence on them had to follow.  All rounded off with an ambient classic I preferred the original with beats but it ain”™t on here, the album Sabresonic is well worth a listen even if it is ancient now.

Hope my submission is an enjoyable one, I have much enjoyed checking out other playlists and have picked up a couple of new acts to follow which is what i like.  Adios an”™ ting.

Morning all. Rockin”™ weekend – I decorated my bathroom, which mainly involved using a massive hammer drill and listening to Huey Morgan on 6 Music. Something very primal about drilling massive holes in puny, pathetic little plasterboard”¦ I got a bit carried away and now the wall looks like Swiss cheese. I AM DIY GOD.

Sadly, today is Monday (as you are, no doubt, aware), and as such we need a playlist that”™s going to get us out of our self-induced doldrums. Thankfully, I think we”™ve got just the one”¦
I present to you Alli Fletcher and Paul Pritchard, tag-team extraordinaire. Oh, and Alli – I still want a solo playlist please ;)

Metric Tons of Love and Funs.

Oi oi! Do you want a treat? Do you want one? Do you want a treat all up in your ear-slits like roaches, germs, mice, lice, termites and percunious bugs? This is the playlist for Wednesday by the one, the only, the super slick motherfucker that is Paul Pritchard. I”™ll hand you over to the man now, and he can fill you right in, just as you like it.

Peas and trucking, belieze.

Following a conversation with the super nice Kevin Atkinson I thought I”™d get to work on compiling a hip-hop playlist to reveal my previously fairly well hidden inner b-boy.

Yes, For most of my life I have harboured a bit of a hidden love for a bit of the ole hip-hoppity thing.  Except for the last 3-4 years, when I have hardly listened to any due to being disillusioned with the whole genre.  I have been truly rediscovering an old flame in the last couple of days while I have been compiling this for which I give big props (whatever that means!).  It”™s topped and tailed by Public Enemy, who, in my opinion are the greatest rap act of all time.  I”™ve tried to let it flow for the most part though you may disagree.  It”™s mostly old stuff but with a couple of new discoveries (Daleks, La Rumeur) to modernise it a bit. BDP track is truly awesome and Ya Mama by The Pharcyde is such an infectiously good time call and response track.  I remember seeing them perform it on The Word many years back and being blown away.  MF Doom plays a big part in the Madvillain and Dangerdoom pieces and is probably my favourite current mc.  It”™s Tricky by Run Dmc, truly awesome and broke ground for guitar based backing tracks which popped up many times in the future.
